The Mission: How Vitality Extended Its Wellness Values to Electric Driving

Founded in 2004 and headquartered in London, Vitality is one of the UK's leading health and life insurance providers. With over 1,900 members of staff, Vitality's entire business is built around a powerful idea, that helping people live healthier, longer lives is good for everyone. A philosophy they call Shared Value.

The Challenge

Vitality approached the market with intention. Running a full competitive tender to replace their incumbent provider. For a business built on rewarding healthy choices, the standard had to be high.

Their priorities were clear:

  • The best possible value for employees across the full range of vehicles.

  • Access to used and nearly new EVs as a more affordable, faster entry point.

  • Certainty that the business would be fully covered if an employee's circumstances changed.

Why Vitality Chose The Electric Car Scheme

The Standout Solution
Our multi-funder model and the breadth of our vehicle offering were the deciding factors, giving Vitality the confidence that their employees would always have access to the best deal in the market.

Used and nearly new EVs -  a key differentiator
What set us apart wasn't just the new car range. For Vitality, the availability of used and nearly new electric vehicles was a genuine draw, opening the scheme to a far wider group of employees and making the switch to electric a realistic prospect for everyone, not just those at the top of the pay scale.

Risk protection built in
Vitality needed to know the business was covered. Our Complete Employer Protection from day one, gave them exactly that, full coverage from the start of every lease, regardless of what might change down the line.

A scheme that costs nothing to run
The Electric Car Scheme operates at zero net cost to the employer,  a benefit that stands entirely on its own merits without requiring any budget allocation. For Vitality, a scheme that does right by their people without touching the bottom line is entirely aligned with their Shared Value approach to business.

The Impact

Since launching to employees, engagement has been both immediate and sustained:

  • Thousands of Vitality employees have registered on the platform to explore what's on offer.

  • The very first order was placed on the day the scheme went live - a clear signal that employees were ready and waiting for the right provider.

  • Dozens of EVs are already on the road with Vitality employees, with more on the way each month.

  • Almost 1-in- 4 orders are for used or nearly new EVs - confirming that the used-car range is opening up the scheme to employees who wouldn't otherwise have made the switch.

Employee choice spans the full market, from the Dacia Spring at the value end right through to the Tesla Model 3, Volvo XC40, Audi Q6 e-tron, BMW iX3 and Polestar 4. Notably, every Volvo XC40 ordered to date has been a used car, showing how the nearly-new range is delivering aspirational vehicles at a more accessible price point.

"Winning a competitive tender is one thing but what we're most proud of is delivering a scheme that reflects Vitality's values. Their commitment to doing right by their people is something we deeply admire, and we look forward to supporting their team on the road to net zero."
