Our Impact
The Electric Car Scheme helps employers cut carbon emissions through electric car salary sacrifice. To date, the scheme has saved 36,711 tonnes of CO2e, equal to planting 1,668,696 trees. Every switch from petrol or diesel to electric lowers a company's Scope 3 emissions and supports its ESG goals. Electric cars are where we started, and our ambition reaches further.

Making Net Zero the Obvious Choice
Employers save money and strengthen benefits
The Electric Car Scheme is an attractive staff benefit at no cost to the business. Complete Employer Protection is included, so there is no financial risk. It is a simple way to support recruitment and retention while helping your team go electric.
Employees save up to 50% on any electric car
Employees pay through gross salary sacrifice, before Income Tax and National Insurance. One monthly cost covers insurance, maintenance and breakdown, with zero upfront payment. They save up to 50% compared to leasing the same car privately.
Helping your team reach Net Zero
Every electric car replaces a petrol or diesel one, cutting emissions from day one. Your team lowers its carbon footprint while your business builds its ESG record. Electric cars are where we start, with more Net Zero Benefits to come.
How green are electric cars?
Electric cars produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions than petrol or diesel cars across their full lifetime. This holds true even after the energy used to manufacture and charge them is counted. Transport and Environment found that an electric car becomes less polluting than a petrol equivalent after around 11,500 miles, or one to two years for most drivers.
The comparison is stark over a car's life. A petrol or diesel car burns roughly 17,000 litres of petrol or 13,500 litres of diesel before it leaves the road. An electric car burns none.
Electric cars also get cleaner every year, because the grid does. In 2025, renewable sources generated a record 52.5% of the UK's electricity, the second year running above half. As that share rises, the lifetime emissions of every electric car on the scheme fall with it. Switching today locks in savings that grow over time.
Why Does The Electric Car Scheme Exist?
We exist to make net zero the obvious choice. Cars stay on the road for around 12 years and cover roughly 120,000 miles, so every new car matters. We focus on the next generation of vehicles by making electric cars affordable through salary sacrifice. Helping more people switch to electric drives demand and speeds up infrastructure, manufacturing and innovation.
"Our greatest impact comes from guiding consumers toward choosing electric from the outset. By making new EVs more accessible, we are not just helping individuals. We are creating a ripple effect that speeds up the entire transition to net zero."

We calculate the CO2 emissions saved based on the Distance Based Impact methodology. This approach allows for accurate accounting of CO2e savings, making it applicable for your Scope 3 emissions reporting. The data on vehicle mileage and occupancy are sourced from the Department for Transport, and the comparative life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions of mid-size BEVs and ICE vehicles are based on studies by the IEA (International Energy Agency), under the licence CC BY 4.0.
To calculate the number of trees saved, we assume that the Carbon Dioxide absorption rate of the average tree is 22 kg per year. This is based on a study conducted by the US Department of Agriculture.

Electric cars are considered more environmentally friendly due to their lower greenhouse gas emissions throughout their lifecycle compared to traditional petrol and diesel cars. This includes emissions from manufacturing, operation, and eventual disposal. Furthermore, as the electricity grid becomes greener with more renewable energy sources, the environmental benefits of electric cars increase.
