Every electric car on the road is a step closer to Net Zero. By helping your team switch to EVs, you're actively reducing emissions and building a cleaner, more sustainable future — one salary sacrifice at a time.

Helping your team reach Net Zero

Electric cars are more environmentally friendly than traditional cars, emitting fewer greenhouse gases throughout their lifespan. This is true even when accounting for the energy used to manufacture, as well as power them.

Although electric cars are an improvement, they won't be entirely green until they can run on 100% renewable energy. It's worth noting that in the UK, 50.8% of electricity comes from renewable sources.

Conventional petrol and diesel cars consume approximately 17,000 litres of petrol and 13,500 litres of diesel over there lifetime. A study by Transport and Environment confirms that EVs become “less polluting” after around 11,500 miles of driving - or one to two years for most drivers.

How Green Are Electric Cars?

Why Does The Electric Car Scheme Exist?

Cars stay on the road for around 12 years and drive 120,000 miles — so every new one matters. At The Electric Car Scheme, we focus on influencing the next generation of vehicles by making electric cars more affordable. Helping more people switch to EVs drives demand and accelerates progress across infrastructure, manufacturing, and innovation.

“Our greatest impact comes from guiding consumers toward choosing electric from the outset,” says Thom Groot. “By making new EVs more accessible, we’re not just helping individuals — we’re creating a ripple effect that speeds up the entire transition to net zero.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We calculate the CO2 emissions saved based on the Distance Based Impact methodology. This approach allows for accurate accounting of CO2e savings, making it applicable for your Scope 3 emissions reporting. The data on vehicle mileage and occupancy are sourced from the Department for Transport, and the comparative life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions of mid-size BEVs and ICE vehicles are based on studies by the IEA (International Energy Agency), under the licence CC BY 4.0.

To calculate the number of trees saved, we assume that the Carbon Dioxide absorption rate of the average tree is 22 kg per year. This is based on a study conducted by the US Department of Agriculture.
