Experience

Thom moved to the UK from the Netherlands at 18 and graduated from Imperial College London with an MSci in Chemistry in 2008, later completing an MBA at INSEAD. He began his career in management consulting as a Principal at Oliver Wyman, advising businesses across the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia over seven years.

He then moved into senior operating roles: Digital & Data Director at The AA, Managing Director for Europe at XE.com, and Commercial Director for Sales & Marketing at McCarthy & Stone. In 2020 he co-founded The Electric Car Scheme after discovering that going electric cost roughly four times the price of an equivalent second-hand petrol car, taking on the role of CEO to make EVs affordable for ordinary working families.

Under his leadership, The Electric Car Scheme has grown to a team of more than 100 people and become the UK's most trusted EV salary sacrifice provider. His career highlights include:
