2025 75 Plates That Are So Clever They Should Be Banned

75 Plates Blog Post

The 75 plate is the UK’s brand new car registration, and it’s about to hit the roads. In the UK, number plates change twice a year - once in March and again in September. The numbers in the middle show when the car was first registered.

  • From 1st March to 31st August 2025, cars are registered with the 25 plate.

  • From 1st September 2025, all brand new cars will carry the 75 plate.

That means the 75 late isn’t quite here yet - but it’s coming this September, and The Electric Car Scheme team are already having fun imagining what clever combinations they’ll try to snap up.

Because the format is XX75 XXX, the ‘75’ can double as letters - the 7 looking like T or L, and 5 looks like S. Suddenly boring number plates turn into words, names, or even cheeky little slogans.

We’ve pulled together 40 of the best 75 plate ideas below

Which plates might be banned?

Every release the DVLA screens plates and bans anything that could be rude, offensive, sexual or politically sensitive. For the 75 series, most of the ideas above are perfectly safe, but some words could be flagged if they can be twisted into innuendo.

  • Safe bets: All the EV/net zero ones like NO75GAS, CH75RGE, ZE75RO.

  • Borderline: HO75TLY (could be misread), BO75OSS (depends on spacing).

  • Definitely banned: Anything like SE75XY and JE75US would never make it through.

The DVLA maintains a long banned list - so if you’re set on a plate, always check before you buy. The full list of banned number plates can be found here.

Final Word on 75 Plates

The 75 plate is one of the most fun formats we’ve had in years. Whether you go for a cheeky word, your own name, or a green message, the mix of letters and numbers makes for endless creativity.

Whatever plate you choose, why not make it even more memorable by putting it on an electric car? After all, NO75GAS looks a lot better when it’s true. If you would like to see how much you can save with The Electric Car Scheme, make sure you visit our quote tool here.
